During my break I spent time learning MongoDB, the first document database that I used. If you are interested in learning mongo more in depth that the ‘getting started’ tutorials, I recommend you take a look at MongoDB University.
There a series of free online courses available. Each course is a series of lectures hosted in YouTube, they include quizes, homework projects and a final exam. Even the introductory courses go pretty in depth into Mongo and will have you create complex aggregation queries and database shards.
Besides really getting into the details of MongoDB I really liked the way the homework projects worked. There are places where you will have to use mongo to create a website (I took the course for Node.js, so they have you use Express.js) and the way it was evaluated was by another program that ran request verifications against your local website and your local MongoDB instance. Having taken multiple online courses I thought the idea of the verification run on your machine by a companion program rather than submitting homework for evaluation on the server was very creative.
If you get stuck, and I did get stuck multiple times especially in the aggregation framework module, there are forums with other students taking the course and also moderators to help you out.
Anyway, if you are interested in MongoDB, you should check it out.
